Unlike an MOT, a service is not a legal requirement. However, in many ways, it can be just as important and is certainly very beneficial for your car. We have put together a list of some of the reasons why you should ensure your car always has its annual service:
- Your car will have a higher value with a full service history. You will need to get it serviced at a garage and then get a stamp in the log book. It’s not usually a requirement for you to get the car serviced with a specific person (e.g. a garage approved by the car brand) – the fact it has had a service is usually enough.
- You will find out about any problems that aren’t covered in the MOT. The service will investigate your vehicle further and give you more feedback than you would get from an MOT alone.
- You will find out about any potential future problems. You will also be given general advice and will be told about things like brake pad replacements and tyre replacements that might be needed in the near future.
- If you visit the same company to get any work carried out, you might get a discount. If the garage you visit for a service also then goes on to do general maintenance for you, this gives you the chance to negotiate a better price for your customer loyalty.
- You may get your car cleaned if you choose the right company to carry out the service! This won’t happen everywhere, so double check when you book your car in. It is a nice added bonus of getting a service.
As you can see, services have many benefits. Keep your services up to date in order to be a responsible vehicle owner and get the best price when you decide to sell.
