Owning a car is a big step. It’s essential that you are a responsible car owner and ensure that you fulfil all of your legal obligations. If you don’t, you could end up in a nasty situation whereby you are not covered by your insurance, and/ or somebody gets seriously hurt. Here are some of the main things you need to do:
- Hold a full driving license. You can drive with a provisional license too but only when you are accompanied and are displaying ‘L’ plates. Your license will need renewing so make sure it is still in date.
- Have car insurance. You will need to have at least third party insurance, though many people choose fully comprehensive.
- Get an MOT. You will need to have an MOT every year on vehicles over three years old.
- Make any necessary repairs. If you need any repair work, it is your legal obligation to get it done.
