We are all looking for ways we can save money in our daily lives and one element we often consider is the car. Running a car can be an expensive outlay and often servicing is one of the things that we tend to put on hold, as you are not required to have one done by law unlike an MOT etc. Delaying a car service can potentially cause problems which can lead to a bigger expense and can also mean that your fuel consumption is higher.
Have you ever considered servicing your vehicle yourself? Ideally you will need to have some knowledge of a car engine but it need not be that complicated if you just want to replace filters etc. There are some points to consider though before ripping the engine apart. Firstly is the car still under a manufactures warranty? If so then usually you have to have the car serviced at an approved garage to keep the warranty valid. The second is, you should check the service manual to see what type of service is due – it should either be a regular service or a major one. If it is a major one then you may need to re-think as this can involve changing cambelts and oil etc.
