Tyre rotation is a great way to save money as it reduces uneven tyre wear that could lead to early replacement. As well as this, front or rear tyres will wear faster depending on whether the vehicle is front or rear wheel drive so rotating them prolongs their life span. You should rotate your tyres roughly every 6,000 miles but be sure to check the tyres construction if you have different brand tyres front and back as you should not mix different types of tyre.
When rotating the tyres, the driven wheels should stay on the same side of the vehicle and the un-driven wheels should swap sides. For example, on a front wheel drive car move the rear tyres forward, swapping sides, and the front tyres rearward keeping them on the same side. An exception to this is a four wheel drive layout and here the tyres should swap diagonally across the vehicle. Directional tyres should not swap sides either rear or front.
